Carlo C. Panlilio, LCMFT

Carlo Panlilio is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist who joined the practice of Jonah Green & Associates in 2009. He received his Master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2005. During graduate training, Carlo engaged in therapy with individuals, couples, and families. After graduation, Carlo practiced as a family therapist in Las Vegas, Nevada, working in private practice, a community agency serving the needs of children in foster care, and a community agency serving the needs of children diagnosed with developmental disabilities and chronic illness. Since his return to the D.C. Metro area in 2009, Carlo has been working as a Clinical Supervisor for a treatment foster agency in the community.

Treatment Orientation

Carlo’s approach to therapy is primarily integrative in nature, which means that he uses a client-centered framework to understand the person behind the problem. Together, you and Carlo will explore where you are at the current moment in relation to where you would like to be (i.e., your goals), and look at some of the challenges that keep you stuck, thus preventing you from reaching your goals. Carlo can then “integrate” other therapeutic techniques to better suit your needs, taking into account the type of problem being addressed, empirical validation, or basic fit with the client and family. Therapeutic techniques may come from other widely-used models such as cognitive-behavioral, experiential, narrative, group process, structural, strategic, and solution-focused.

Areas of Interest

Carlo’s work has focused on children, teens, and their families in addressing the following: adjustment from major life changes (e.g., divorce, relocation, etc.), parent coaching, co-parenting strategies, mood and behavioral problems at home and in the school setting, anger management, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, history of abuse and neglect, attachment injuries, developmental disabilities, impact of chronic illness on the family, and facilitating healthier communication. In addition to providing family therapy, Carlo also offers individual and couples therapy.
