Ms. Bernards joined the practice of Jonah Green and Associates in 2008. She provides therapy for couples, children, adolescents, families and individual adults that assist them in reaching their life goals. Her clients include children who face a wide variety of emotional and behavioral challenges including executive functioning and mood changes, and with adjustment issues related to school, divorce, and other challenges.
Ms. Bernards approaches therapy with the goal of building on the strengths of individuals and creating a supportive environment for change within the family.
She is certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an evidence-based highly effective method of working with couples and families. EFT seeks to rebuild attachment bonds between partners and family members, which enhances safety and promotes nurturing relationships.
Fitting the therapeutic approach to the needs of each individual client and family, Ms. Bernards also makes use of a wide variety of therapy models including Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client-Centered Play Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Ms. Bernards works flexibly in combining work with the family as a whole, with the parents alone, in parent-child dyads, and separate individual sessions with the child or teen. She believes that families can greatly enhance their children’s progress by increasing healthy communication and engaging in the therapeutic process together.
