Presented by: Michael Giordano, LICSW
In the past few years, the ways people identify their gender has increased exponentially. No longer are the identities of male, female, and transgender enough for a therapist to know about. In addition, the ways in which therapists work with this population has changed dramatically.
In this workshop, you will learn more about the fluidity of gender identity and expression and learn ways to be more competent and affirming with clients who are gender non-conforming. Additionally, you will explore the tasks therapists must be competent in, including assisting with transitions, helping navigate coming out issues, dating & relationship concerns, and children and gender identity. This workshop is particularly suited for cisgender therapists.
As a result of being in this workshop, participants will:
- Learn how to distinguish between the major concepts of sexuality and gender identity.
- Be more comfortable asking clients about their gender identity, preferred pronouns, and gender expression.
- Learn respectful ways to talk about gender identity with clients and other professionals.
- Understand the major roles/tasks therapists take on when working with clients around gender identity.
The workshop will take place on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 8:30 -11: 30 am at the office of Jonah Green and Associates, LLC, 3930 Knowles Avenue, Suite 206, in Kensington, MD. Refreshments and networking will begin at 8:00 AM. Participants who are eligible will receive 3.0 Category One Continuing Education credits through the Maryland Board of Social Work.
Cost of the workshop: $75.00
