Emilie is a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family therapist (LGMFT) who joined Jonah Green and Associates in early 2018. Emilie’s expertise is in working with couples and families to improve their relationships and build more meaningful and more resilient bonds with each other. She has experience working with children and adolescents with a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, emotion regulation, behavioral concerns, bullying, grief, and loss. In her work with children and adolescents, she makes sure to support parents and strengthen parent-child bonds. Emilie has experience working with immigrant and multi-cultural families and is attuned to cultural differences in family dynamics. She can conduct therapy in French as well as Dutch.
Between 2014 and 2016, Emilie worked as a therapist intern at Mary’s Center for Mother and Child in DC as well as at the Virginia Tech Family Services Clinic in Falls Church. Until 2013, Emilie ran her own private therapy practice in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
Approach to Therapy
Emilie creates a safe and supportive environment for families, couples, and children to heal and grow. She has advanced training in a range of experiential and systemic approaches such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Structural Family Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Family Therapy and Child-centered Play. She applies the latest neuroscientific research about emotional regulation and attachment to reduce individual distress and improve relationships by changing how children and adults manage their emotions and interact with each other. She is also skilled at helping children and adolescents manage peer relationships and develop their social skills.
In addition, Emilie works with somatic therapeutic techniques that can be integrated into systemic and experiential approaches to facilitate awareness, empathy and mindful communication. She has extensive training in Bio-Energetics, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and is skilled in their application to children and adolescents as well as adults.
