Liann Seiter is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist who joined Jonah Green and Associates in 2018. She provides individual and family therapy as well as parent consultations for children and adolescents with a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, problems of self-esteem and self-concept, ADHD, emotion-regulation problems, social skills problems, and behavioral concerns. As a family therapist, she is keen on developing family bonds, improving family communication, and facilitating family atmospheres that are conducive to health and well-being.
Liann feels that individuals and families are most able to change when they have a supportive therapist in their corner. She views the therapeutic process as collaborative, and uses the therapeutic tools needed to best support the change process within her clients. Her “therapy tool box” includes cognitive- behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, play therapy, communication and social skills training, and mindfulness-based interventions.
Liann comes to Jonah Green and Associates from the Center for Healthy Families in College Park, Maryland, where she served as a therapist for families, couples, children, adolescents and individual adults with a wide variety of presenting issues and from a wide range of backgrounds. She is experienced in working with single-parent families, separated and divorced families, LGBTQ individuals, and people from a diversity of cultures, religions, and ethnicities.
Liann had extensive professional experience prior to becoming a therapist that informs her clinical work. She spent over five years working at a non-profit research organization in Washington, DC that focused on educational issues, and spent several months studying family life in India. Liann has also supported women during labor and delivery as part of her work as a birth doula. She is also a trained and certified massage therapist and yoga instructor.
Liann received a bachelor’s degree in marriage, family, and human development at Brigham Young University, a master’s degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University, and a master’s degree in couples and family therapy from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is certified as a facilitator for the Prepare/Enrich program, which builds couples’ relationship skills.
